The improbably named Byggvir's Big Beer Cup is a homebrewing competition put on each year at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. (Byggvir, I’m told, is the Norse god of brewing.) The organizers wanted something that would stand out from other competitions, yet fit into the general feel of the Renaissance Festival. And it had to look good on a t-shirt. So I dusted off my old calligraphy supplies, and went to work creating this homage to typography past. The logo worked, and the competition is entering its third year as of this writing. Below is the new poster for 2009.
